Violence Against Women

Zonta International has taken aim to eliminate violence against women. On this page we will post information that can assist you in working with us.

Here is information about how you can begin to implement the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence against Women. The study was launched in October 2006. We are working with coalitions to move the agenda forward throughout the world.

The Zonta Club of New York worked in coalition to produce a Conference on the Secretary General's Study, which was held on November 18, 2007. We produced a booklet telling how to replicate what we did, and we are producing a document on the proceedings of this conference.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Once again we’re asking for your active support to the “Say NO to Violence against Women” campaign (http://www.saynotoviolence.org/).

We’ve been issued a challenge: the United Nations Foundation is prepared to contribute $100,000 to the UNIFEM-managed UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women that provides needed resources to local initiatives aimed at ending violence against women. But there’s a catch. The $100,000 is a challenge grant — $100,000 in exchange for 100,000 names recorded in the “Say NO to Violence against Women” campaign book.

Of course we have accepted the challenge — and we know that with your help we can succeed. But we need to let people around the world know. We need to spread the word!

UNIFEM has just launched a new HTML campaign site to make it easier for people everywhere to come on board and meet the challenge. This version is compatible for dial-up connections and lower bandwidth, and will really help outreach.

Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman is again enthusiastically lending her voice and is sending a “meet the challenge” email to all launch partners, supporting organizations and individuals around the world who said they want to help.

New “meet the challenge” banners and other campaign materials for use on websites, newsletters, and emails are now ready on our toolkit: http://www.unifem.org/campaigns/vaw/toolkit.php

If you have questions or comments, or would like to be added as a Supporting Organization on the campaign, please email saynotoviolence@unifem.org (Attn: Tracy Raczek).

We must renew our efforts — remember: each signature brings $1 to help end violence against women.

Thank you for your help.
